How I went five years without movie role – Benedict Johnson

Actor Benedict Johnson has shared details of a difficult period in his career, saying he spent five years without landing a movie role.

Benedict spoke at a service at Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International church in Abuja, and a video of his remarks has gone viral online.

The actor said that for five years he did not get any work in film. No director called him, and he had no acting projects during that time. “Our industry is not like an employment where you can walk up to your director and say, ‘What’s happening?’ ‘Why was I fired?’ This one, silently, nobody calls you for a job. For five years, I had no job to do. I kept believing in God,” he said.

Benedict said the lack of roles eventually led him to relocate to Abuja so he could attend prayer meetings at the church led by Jerry Eze. Despite warnings from colleagues that Abuja is not a centre for film production, he made the move and began attending services regularly.

He said his career has improved since the beginning of 2026. “Fast forward to now: this year alone, I have done twelve jobs already. We did 21 days of fasting and prayers this January, and I was right here praying,” he told the congregation. “God opened my way, and I started doing jobs.”

Benedict also said he has received acting offers from producers in the United States and Germany. “As I speak to you right now, by next week, I am going to Germany and America to make a movie. I intend to return all the glory to God.”

In the same service, he spoke about his daughter’s recovery from a serious illness, saying he believed prayer and support from church leaders helped her improve.

Benedict Johnson is a Nollywood actor from Imo State.
