Former Big Brother Naija housemate and actor Saga Adeolu has shared his journey preparing for a role in the upcoming Netflix series Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens.
Taking to his Instagram page on Tuesday, he posted moments from the set and described how director Kunle Afolayan reached out to him about the project.
He wrote, “Anikulapo is coming! Flashback to 2024, I got the call from @kunleafo to come be a part of this amazing project.. He asked if I had what it took to bring the character to life.. I told him I was ready to do anything, cut my beards, learn indigenous Oyo Yoruba, be a hunter, warrior, whatever it takes 😂. I took a month off work completely to immerse myself in character, got daily coaching on my dialect from @waa_sere, watched @eayoruba daily for practice, watched the movie and season 1 multiple times, went hard at the gym for my physique and learnt all my lines before I even set my foot on set. Long and short of the story, yall will get to watch me live on Netflix on the 30th.. GLOBALY ✨ Can’t wait for yall to see this masterpiece!”
Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens is the second season of the Anikulapo franchise created by Kunle Afolayan.
The series continues the story of the mystical and historical world first seen in the original film and its first series sequel, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre. The new season expands the narrative beyond the Oyo Kingdom and introduces new challenges and characters for viewers to follow.
The production features both established and new cast members. Alongside Saga are performers such as Bukunmi “KieKie” Adeaga-Ilori, Saidi Balogun, Antar Laniyan, Teniola Aladese, and Ghanaian actress Fella Makafui. Actors from earlier seasons, including Sola Sobowale and Bimbo Ademoye, also return.
The series was filmed in Nigeria and Ghana, with scenes shot at the Kunle Afolayan Production film village in Oyo State and in Cape Coast, Ghana, as part of efforts to broaden the story’s setting.
Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens is set to premiere globally on Netflix on January 30.
