Actor and content creator Odira Nwobu has shared the emotional story of how he narrowly escaped death in a road accident that claimed the life of one of his close friends.
According to Odira, the incident happened in late June while Odira was travelling from Lagos to Enugu for a real estate advert shoot. He said the company invited him for the job and offered to pay for his flight, but he opted to go by road and was allowed to take friends along.
“My friends told me that they want to join me… at least to have some fun and return,” he said in a video posted online.
Odira, known for his comic roles and viral skits, said he began coughing nonstop shortly into the trip, which led to a stopover to get coffee. He then moved to the front seat, a decision that would later save his life.
Not long after, the vehicle attempted to overtake a trailer on a bridge, but the manoeuvre went wrong, resulting in a ghastly crash.
“I was wearing a seat belt. The thing nearly affected my wrist and my spinal cord because I was bending down like this on the car. The thing just bent me so hard,” he recalled.
“I was there gasping for breath. I saw people dying in front of me. A boy’s leg was cut, another one had an injury on his head. I don’t know how I survived. I thank God.”
Odira said he was stuck in the wreckage until a man in army uniform came to his rescue.
“One army man came and used knife to cut the seat belt. The belt even injured me,” he said.
The actor explained that he decided to tell his story so people would know what really happened and how God saved him.
“So that you know exactly what happened and how God saved everybody’s life, except one,” he said tearfully.
According to report, Odira is still recovering from injuries sustained in the accident, including spinal compression.
