On-Air Personality and screenwriter Dami Elebe has revealed that she nearly lost her life just weeks after welcoming her first child with husband Emeka Emodi.
The 38-year-old shared her testimony on Thursday, October 2, while marking her birthday.
“I’m I dying? That was the question I asked my husband and the ER staff just a few weeks after I had my baby. I was having a heart failure. My lungs were filled with fluid. My body was drowning me… simply because I had given birth,” she wrote.
Dami said she passed out, was resuscitated and placed on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit.
“I couldn’t speak, so I scribbled that [the nurse] should play me a worship playlist. And I intensified my prayers — I asked God to just heal me enough so I could use the toilet myself because we didn’t discuss me shitting in a bed. I just wanted to go home, to be with my husband and my baby, and to live,” she recalled.
The media personality added that she remained thankful for every sign of progress.
“Every little sign of progress, every moment I felt a bit better, I thanked God. I was thankful that we got to the ER at the right time. Thankful that the doctors diagnosed me quickly. Thankful to simply be alive,” she said.
On her birthday, Dami expressed gratitude for her support system.
“And today… I’m here. To celebrate a birthday. To be loved and cared for. To soak in the support of my husband, my mother, my family, and my friends. The support system that God gave me, I am truly blessed,” she said.
She added, “I don’t take this birthday for granted. I can never thank God enough, but what I can do is live with gratitude and celebrate the gift of aging.”
Dami, who has written shows like Skinny Girl in Transit, Rumour Has It and Far From Home, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most successful screenwriters.
