How I receive inspiration for my songs — Sunmisola Agbebi

Gospel singer Sunmisola Agbebi has revealed that her songs are born entirely from divine inspiration.

Speaking in am interview shared on Sunday, the 27-year-old said her music is not driven by talent alone but by her relationship with God.

“My relationship with God is the foundation of everything I do musically. I don’t see songwriting as just me trying to put words together; it’s really me documenting what God is doing in my life and in my spirit,” she said.

She explained that many of her songs come during moments of prayer, worship or when a Bible verse suddenly becomes clear to her.

“Sometimes a song comes during prayer, other times in worship or just from a scripture that suddenly becomes alive to me. I’ve realized that when I try to create on my own, it feels empty, but when I wait on God, He breathes on the melodies and words. That’s why I always say the songs are not mine – they’re His.”

According to Sunmisola, her desire is for listeners to experience God through her music, not just enjoy her voice. “My role is simply to steward them faithfully so that when people listen, they don’t just hear Sunmisola, but they encounter God,” she added.

Sunmisola began singing at age four and came into the spotlight after winning the Ikorodu Radio Music Challenge in 2017. She has since performed on major stages including the Dubai Expo with Grammy winner A. R. Rahman and has toured internationally.

Her marriage to fellow gospel singer Yinka Okeleye has also strengthened her presence in the gospel community.

With projects like her ‘Glory’ EP and singles such as ‘Aileyipada’ and ‘Halleluyah,’ Sunmisola continues to build her ministry.
