How I lost my soulmate — Timini Egbuson

Actor Timini has spoken openly about a personal regret, revealing that his strong focus on work and financial success once cost him a relationship he believed would last a lifetime.

The 38-year-old shared the experience during an interview with Jay On Air, where he reflected on losing a woman he described as his soulmate. According to Timini, there was no major conflict between them, but his constant absence created a gap that could not be bridged.

At the time, Timini said he believed providing financially was the clearest way to show love. He expected his partner to understand his long hours and frequent unavailability, which he felt were necessary to secure a stable future and “put food on the table.” That approach, however, gradually pushed her away. She later married someone else who was able to give her the time and presence he could not offer then.

“I’m convinced that she was my soulmate,” he said, noting that losing her remains one of his deepest regrets.

Timini explained that while money still matters, he has come to understand that it cannot sustain a relationship on its own.

“Money is just one out of many things that matter,” he said.

He stressed the importance of emotional availability, paying attention, listening, remembering details, and showing real interest in a partner’s daily life. He added that an excessive focus on money can attract the wrong people or cause the right partner to start measuring love only in material terms.

“If all you can bring to a relationship is money, then you’re a very shallow man,” he stated.

The actor also admitted that poor communication and selfishness affected his past relationships. He said he has since grown through self reflection and accountability, learning lessons he believes are necessary for healthier partnerships.

Timini is one of the most visible actors of his generation in Nollywood, known for roles in films and series such as Shanty Town, Breaded Life and Elevator Baby.
