How fame affected my child – Bob-Manuel Udokwu

Actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has spoken about how his celebrity status affected his daughter’s experience while she was in secondary school.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo on WithChude, the 58-year-old said his daughter was bullied at Queens College Lagos because she was known to be his child. He said the experience happened when she was in Junior Secondary School 1.

“I have a good family. My kids are grown now. Being born and seeing your father is popular. And growing with all the inconveniences and all that,” he said.

“I remember when my daughter was in Queens College, some senior students were just punishing her for just being (my daughter).

“Today when we talk about it, she will laugh. But it was not funny. She was in JSS 1.

“And I did not want to be in their face so that I do not distract them. We agreed they were going to go to public school, because I also attended public schools.”

Bob said he and his wife chose public schools so their children could grow up normally despite his fame.

The actor began his education at St. Peters Primary School in Enugu and later attended Oraukwu Grammar School in Anambra State. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt.

He started his acting career in 1992 with the film Living in Bondage, regarded as one of the productions that helped shape Nigeria’s modern film industry. He currently serves as special assistant to the Anambra State governor on entertainment, tourism and culture.
