Former Big Brother Naija star Boma Akpore has revealed that a relationship he hoped would lead to marriage ended because his lover’s family could not accept him after he gained fame.
Speaking on WithChude with Chude Jideonwo, Boma said he had met “someone that I really liked” and had planned to marry her. “I was supposed to be engaging her like last August, I was going to go to America, get the ring, bring it back because I liked her and I told her I was going to marry her,” he recalled.
He described the relationship as “amazing” with the usual ups and downs, but overall “perfect”, until the family intervened. “This guy? Hell no, impossible,” he said.
Boma explained that the rejection was tied to his public profile. “Once you come to the public, that is the prize you have to pay.”
The actor and model, who featured in the 2021 BBNaija “Shine Ya Eye” season, had been married before.
“I have been married before; my marriage scattered and everything happened in 2017,” he shared. He described that period as a low point: “In 2017 I lost everything, my career, life and wife.”
Despite the heartbreak, Boma bounced back. BBNaija, he said, changed his life: “Participating in BBNaija ‘Shine ya Eye’ edition gave me fame. You could be talented and people wouldn’t still know your worth. But BBNaija made me a household name in the entertainment industry.”
Since then, Boma has focused on acting, moving between Nigeria and the US, and taking on multiple film projects.
