Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has announced plans to cook the world’s biggest pot of jollof rice using 250 bags of rice.
The 28-year-old revealed in an Instagram video on Monday that the project would require a specially designed pot measuring six metres wide and six metres tall, with a capacity of 22,619 litres.
She added that her goal is to fill the pot up to at least 80 per cent, which translates to over 5,000 kilogrammes of rice.
“My goal is to fill this pot up by at least 75 to 80 per cent. That means I will need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice to achieve the yield. I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags,” she said.
According to her, the cooking will also involve 1,583 kilogrammes of tomato paste, along with other condiments including pepper chicken paste and jollof paste.
She said the attempt, scheduled for September 12, would serve as a celebration of food, culture and community.
Hilda Baci gained international attention in May 2023 after cooking for 93 hours and 11 minutes to set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
Her record was officially confirmed in June 2023 before being surpassed later in the year by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
