President Bola Tinubu has mourned Leila Fowler, founder of the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos.
Mrs Fowler, who was the Yeye Mofin of Lagos and mother of former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) chairman Babatunde Fowler, died on Saturday at the age of 92.
Her death was announced by the management of the school, which she established in 1991 in honour of her late daughter.
In a statement issued on Monday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described her death as a loss to her family, the nation and the education sector.
“Through establishing the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, the late Mrs. Fowler laid the foundation for academic excellence, nurturing generations of young women and empowering them to reach their fullest potential,” the president said.
“Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she transformed. The nation is grateful for her impact. She will be fondly engraved in our minds.”
Tinubu extended condolences to the Fowler family, friends, associates, management and students of Vivian Fowler Memorial College and the people of Lagos State.
