Heirs Insurance Group (HIG) has launched its first hackathon, offering a N9 million prize to students in universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions.
The programme invites participants to develop technology-driven solutions for the insurance sector.
The hackathon tasks students to design solutions across the insurance value chain, including underwriting, claims processing, distribution, data analytics and operational efficiency.
Registration closes on February 16 and the winners will be announced at the grand finale in April.
The initiative aims to support the development of solutions that improve claims settlement, customer experience and access to insurance products.
It also serves as a talent pipeline, allowing students to apply technologies such as artificial intelligence to real business problems within financial services.
Niyi Onifade, CEO of Heirs Life Assurance, said the programme reflects the company’s belief that technology and youth participation can address inefficiencies in the insurance industry.
He added that empowering students to build practical solutions will support industry growth and enhance service delivery for policyholders.
Peace Philips, chief digital officer of Heirs Insurance Group, said the hackathon gives young people the opportunity to apply their ideas and skills to economic challenges while engaging with the insurance sector.
The programme is delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payment solutions arm of Heirs Holdings, which will provide technical support and review submissions based on creativity, feasibility, scalability and real-world impact.
Heirs Insurance Group is the insurance division of Heirs Holdings, which has investments across 24 countries and four continents.
