Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has attracted public attention after a video showed him receiving intense prayers from a church congregation shortly after his release from police custody in Edo State.
The activist shared the video on his Instagram page on Tuesday.
In the footage, Gwamnishu was seen kneeling at an open air church ground, surrounded by dozens of worshippers under a tent.
The pastor and members of the congregation raised their hands, shouting prayers over him.
In one of the prayers, the pastor declared that those who pursue Gwamnishu would be destroyed.
The prayer session came shortly after Gwamnishu regained freedom following two weeks in police custody.
He had faced allegations of diverting N5.4 million from a ransom payment meant for a kidnapped couple.
The video quickly went viral and sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the timing of the prayer session.
Earlier, Gwamnishu said he voluntarily presented himself for investigation and was never formally arrested or charged.
While in custody, the activist claimed he served as “cell president,” a role he said enabled him to help secure the release of four detainees.
He stated that he did not leave alone, adding that he handed over the position of “Presido” to a young man, Onah Abba, whom he described as having been unjustly arrested.
According to Harrison Gwamnishu, Abba, who is from Benue State, has now regained his freedom.
He also said he quietly supported the release of four individuals who were allegedly being held without cause.
