The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) is celebrating the birthday of its Executive Director, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, with tributes from staff and the Nigerian film community.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Board shared a photo of Dr. Shaibu with a note that read: “Today, we celebrate an incredible leader, mentor, and visionary! 🎉🎂 Happy Birthday, to the Executive Director National Film and Video Censors Board, Dr. Shaibu Husseini! @igalaman Your guidance and inspiration light the way for all of us. Here’s to another year of greatness and success! 🥂🎈”
Dr. Shaibu in a personal post expressed gratitude to God saying: “The God of all Flesh, your Son that you saved, lifted, promoted, favored, blessed, and have continued to bless have come to say THANK YOU! Thank you for another year in my life, Lord. Thank you, thank you, thank you, the God of All Flesh!”
A seasoned journalist, film critic, and cultural administrator, Dr. Shaibu holds a First Class BSc in Mass Communication from Lagos State University, an MSc (Distinction), and a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, where his research focused on Nollywood’s film production structures.
Before joining NFVCB, he spent over two decades at The Guardian newspaper, covering film and culture, earning recognition as “Mr. Nollywood.” He has served as a juror and chair of selection committees for the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and consulted for international film festivals, including Berlin and the Golden Globes.
Dr. Shaibu was appointed Executive Director / CEO of NFVCB on January 12, 2024, and assumed office in March 2024. His appointment was widely welcomed due to his extensive experience. On assumption of office, he described himself as “an open book” and pledged inclusive leadership, professionalism, and a renewed direction for the Board.
