Minister of arts, culture, tourism and creative economy, Hannatu Musawa, has dispatched a delegation to Amsterdam to meet with streaming giant Netflix.
A statement on Tuesday confirmed that the meeting, set to take place at Netflix’s corporate headquarters, will address the company’s recent decision to halt commissioning original Nigerian content and its impact on the country’s film industry.
Leading the delegation is Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Shaibu Husseini.
He will be joined by key industry stakeholders, including Play Network’s Charles Okpaleke, FilmOne’s Group Managing Director Kene Okwuosa, filmmaker Moses Iwang and Film Distributors Association of Nigeria (FDAN) President Joy Odiete.
According to the statement, the engagement with Netflix underscores the ministry’s commitment to fostering Nigeria’s creative economy and safeguarding local content creators.
The delegation’s meeting with Netflix is expected to yield positive outcomes for Nollywood and pave the way for future collaborations.
“As the Minister responsible for driving the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy, Barrister Musawa has consistently demonstrated her dedication to empowering local talent and promoting cultural exchange.
“This meeting is a testament to her efforts to foster international partnerships that benefit Nigeria’s creative sector,” the statement concluded.
