Guinness and Singleton Whiskey have been announced as headline sponsors of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, Africa’s first E1 Series event scheduled to hold between October 3 and October 5.
The competition will feature electric powerboats racing on Lagos waters.
According to the Lagos State Government, the event is projected to generate over US$100 million in revenue.
More than 250 international participants, including athletes, teams and VIPs, are expected, along with 10,000 to 15,000 visitors during the race week.
The government also projects up to US$15 million in tourism revenue during peak days, excluding additional income from sponsorships, media rights and local vendor contracts.
Hotels in Victoria Island, Lekki, Ikoyi and Ikeja are already recording increased demand ahead of the event.
The race is also expected to create jobs across logistics, marine services, fashion, nightlife and cultural tourism, while promoting electric propulsion and clean water sports as part of Lagos’s plan for a blue economy.
Yinka Bakare, marketing and innovation director at Guinness Nigeria, said the company’s sponsorship of the race is aimed at showcasing Lagos’s global potential and supporting cultural experiences.
Lagos State commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the event aligns with the government’s sustainability goals and showcases the state’s capacity to host international sporting events.
He added that agencies such as LASWA, LAWMA, the Marine Police, the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force will provide support.
The Lagos event places the city alongside other international host locations for the E1 Series, including Monaco, Venice and Jeddah.
