Guardians of Ahmed raise over N5m, open Fidelity Bank trust fund

Guardians of Ahmed have raised over N5.5 million and opened the Ahmed Salami Trust Fund with Fidelity Bank in honour of Rafat Salami, the late mother of Nigerian vlogger Ahmed Salami.

The group announced the development in Abuja on Tuesday, ahead of the first anniversary of Rafat Salami’s death on December 20, 2024.

A bank statement for the trust fund was presented to Jameel Salami, Ahmed’s elder brother and caregiver.

According to the statement, a total of N5,528,105.43 has been transferred into the account.

The funds include N3,472,436.70 contributed by Lara Owoeye-Wise, coordinator of Guardians of Ahmed and N2,055,668.73 from Daisy Jonathan, coordinator of Warrior Mums Africa.

Ahmed Salami, who lives with autism, cerebral palsy and ADHD, is a signatory to the trust fund alongside members of the board of trustees.

They are Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, chairman Badewa Adejugbe-Williams and Secretary Francis Mohie.

The handover took place at a meeting chaired by Dr Ahmadu, who is also the acting director of the Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department at the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

Other attendees included Evelyn Agu of Patsilver Educational Support and Therapy Centre, Rabi Awobajo of Natural Care Therapeutic Services, Abuja, Habiba Aliyu of the Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, deputy news editor at The Sun Newspapers and Fidelity Bank representatives Abigail Udume and Loveth Ossai.

Jameel Salami thanked members of the group and said the presentation of the bank statement would address concerns about how the funds were handled.

Mrs Taiwo-Obalonye said the meeting was held to ensure transparency and confirm that commitments made by the group had been fulfilled.

An update on Ahmed was also shared, with the family stating that he is stable and plans to return to vlogging, with caregiving arrangements in place.

The Guardians of Ahmed said donations can now be made directly to the Ahmed Salami Trust Fund, Fidelity Bank, account number 5601613076.

Supporters were encouraged to contribute at least N12,000 annually to help meet Ahmed’s needs.
