The 8th edition of the annual GTCO Fashion Weekend begins today, Saturday, November 8, and runs through Sunday, November 9, at Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Lagos.
Organised by Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO), the two-day event themed “Always a Good Idea” is expected to attract fashion lovers, designers and industry leaders from across Nigeria and beyond.
In the build-up to the show, the organisers held a press briefing on Wednesday where journalists toured a curated exhibition tracing the evolution of Nigerian fashion and the cultural influences shaping contemporary trends.
The exhibition featured garments, accessories and hair concepts from past editions, including Aso-Oke looms from Oyo State and richly dyed Adire fabrics, which sparked conversations among guests.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition will once again spotlight the artistic depth of Nigerian and global fashion creators.
“Runway showcases will take centre stage, complemented by masterclasses that allow participants to learn directly from respected voices in fashion, modelling, skincare, and makeup,” the organisers said.
Guests will also have opportunities to shop from some of Africa’s most contemporary and distinctive fashion brands throughout the weekend.
Designers expected to showcase include Ituen Basi, Mowalola, Mmuso Maxwell, Tongoro Studio, Charles Harbison, Stella Jean and Tia Adeola.
GTCO Fashion Weekend, first held in 2016, has grown into one of the continent’s biggest fashion fairs, combining runway shows, masterclasses and retail exhibitions to promote African creativity and enterprise.
The event is free to attend and aims to connect consumers, designers and entrepreneurs while spotlighting Nigeria’s influence on global fashion.
