Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has strongly condemned the assault of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by men suspected to be members of a local vigilante group.
The incident, which occurred in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area in Anambra on Tuesday, gained public attention after a disturbing video surfaced online. In the video, the corps member was seen being beaten and stripped by gun-wielding operatives, as she cried and begged for mercy.
Reports indicate that the operatives, believed to be part of the Agunechemba security outfit, had stormed a Corpers’ Lodge in search of suspected internet fraudsters when the attack occurred.
In an official statement, Mrs. Soludo described the video as heartbreaking and unacceptable, urging a full investigation and swift action to ensure justice.
“I’ve seen the viral video of the disturbing incident — reportedly involving operatives of the Agunechemba security formation and a female corps member serving in Anambra State,” she said. “There is absolutely no justification for such degrading and inhumane treatment. This kind of behavior does not reflect the values of Anambra people or the principles of our administration.”
“There are rules of engagement in every security operation, and those rules must be rooted in civility, decency, and the protection of human rights,” Mrs. Soludo added. “I call on the authorities already handling the matter to take decisive action—not only to ensure justice is served, but to prevent such an incident from ever repeating itself.”
She also emphasised the need to protect the reputation of Anambra State, describing it as “priceless and worth defending.”
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the vigilante operatives involved in the assault. However, the victim has yet to be located as investigations continue.
The video going round online shows the female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assaulted by armed men. In the footage, which has since gone viral on social media, the operatives, dressed in plain clothes and wielding heavy firearms, stormed a residential compound and began beating the corps member.
The young woman was seen being slapped, punched, and dragged forcefully, as she was stripped naked while she cried out, begging for mercy. Despite her pleas, the men continued the assault and eventually pushed her out of the premises.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the perpetrators are members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group. Although the video only surfaced recently, the police confirmed that the assault took place in July.
