Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has assured the people of Ogbe-Ijaw in Warri South-West and Aladja in Udu Local Government Areas of the state of peaceful resolution of their aged-long dispute.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday, during a “thank you” visit to the Ijaw traditional rulers and political leaders.

The traditional rulers and political leaders converged at the residence of the Pere of the Ogulagha Kingdom and chairman of Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers’ Forum, Elder Joseph Timiyen at Ugborikoko, Uvwie LGA to receive the governor.

Oborevwori applauded the people for their peaceful disposition, saying that he was quite impressed that the two communities sheathed their swords after listening to his counsel.

He urged them to remain peaceful, assuring that he would not be biased in resolving the aged-long boundary dispute.

The governor lauded the traditional rulers and political leaders of the Ijaw ethnic group in the state, for their overwhelming support in the 2023 governorship election.

“The Ijaw people are peaceful, loving and kind to me and my administration. I am grateful to God for all the support they have been giving to me and my administration.

“I was here during the election and you people gathered and prayed for me.

“I was supposed to return in 2024 after my supreme court case, but I was waiting to award contracts across the Ijaw communities in the state, that I have just done.

“In the last State Executive Council meeting, a lot of projects were approved for the Ijaw nation.

“Ijaw people are very patient with me. Anywhere I go, they support me. I am enjoying their support; I will continue to listen to you and do more in Delta,” he said.

Oborevwori also used the forum to commiserate with the Ijaw people on the recent passage of Chief Edwin Clark.

Responding to some questions raised by the royal fathers, the governor said that the Ayakoromo bridge project was receiving attention from the state government.

He also said that the state government was establishing a model school in Gbaramatu kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the kings, the Pere of Ogulaha kingdom, Elder Timiyen appreciated the governor for the visit.

The royal father assured the governor that the Ijaw people would continue to support him and his administration.

He, however, appealed for the posting of more teachers to primary and secondary schools in the riverine communities of the state to aid learning.
