GOCOP BOOK

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has announced the public presentation of its book, Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspectives on Online Publishing, scheduled to hold on June 17 at the Abuja Continental Hotel, starting at 10:00 AM.

The announcement was made in a statement by the GOCOP publicity secretary Remmy Nweke, who emphasised the significance of the event.

According to the statement, GOCOP president Maureen Chigbo revealed that the occasion will also feature a fundraiser for a N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre, a multi-purpose resource hub envisioned to house a secretariat, a 21st-century library, event halls and other state-of-the-art facilities.

Speaking on the importance of the book, Ms Chigbo said: “This landmark publication chronicles the transformative journey of Nigeria’s media landscape, highlighting the pivotal role of online publishing in shaping public discourse, enhancing transparency, and fostering national development. It is a testament to the resilience and innovation of Nigerian media practitioners in the digital age.”

The event is expected to bring together a host of distinguished personalities from the government, media, private sector, academia, and civil society. These stakeholders will reflect on the challenges and opportunities in online publishing and its critical role in nation-building.

GOCOP, which boasts 120 corporate members, was founded to ensure that online publishers uphold the core tenets of journalism. Its members include a diverse group of editors and senior journalists who have transitioned from print and electronic media to online publishing, firmly establishing it as the future of journalism globally.

The book not only traces the historical trajectory of online journalism in Nigeria but also serves as a significant contribution to discussions on civil liberties, press freedom, and the essential role of the media in sustaining democracy.
