GOCOP elects first female president Maureen Chigbo

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has elected its first female president Maureen Chigbo to lead the guild for the next two years.

The publisher of Realnews was elected the fourth president of GOCOP alongside 14 others as the new set of executive committee at the guild’s annual general meeting on Wednesday at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Chigbo takes the reins as GOCOP head from the publisher of The Eagle Online Dotun Oladipo.

Her election comes ahead of the guild’s fifth conference scheduled to hold on Thursday, with secretary to the government of the federation Boss Mustapha set to deliver keynote address while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will also be present as chairman of the occasion.

Also elected as part of the exco were Danlami Nmodu as deputy president, Ken Ugbechie as vice president, south; Tom Chaiheman emerged vice president, north; Collins Edomaruse as general secretary, Olumide Iyanda as deputy secretary-general; Remmy Nweke as publicity secretary, Azuh Arinze as financial secretary while Yemisi Izuora emerged treasurer.

Also, Messrs Max Amuchie, Horatius Egua, James Ume; Akeem Oyetunji; Raymond Ukaegbu and Tony Edike were elected zonal coordinators for the north central, north east, north west, south west, south south and south east respectively.

In her acceptance speech, Chigbo said she was overwhelmed by the decision of the male-dominated body to elect her, pledging to do her best in adding value to the guild.

“I am excited on the confidence you repose on me. I will do my best, I will try to do my best with the support of all. I pray God give me strength to serve, we will do it together. Mark my words, I say we will do it together, we must all work together to lift GOCOP,” she said.

The newly elected exco will be inaugurated on Thursday at the same venue.
