Go and compete with my children, MC Oluomo defends ‘kundusi’ blunder

President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has responded to the wave of mockery trailing his recent mispronunciation of “kudos” as “kundusi”.

In a viral video that surfaced on Tuesday, Oluomo addressed delegates of the union, admitting that while he is not educated and may struggle with English, he has raised well-educated children who now hold citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom.

“If you and my children come out to express yourself, I’m not sure you can beat them, they are highly educated. I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there,” he said.

Oluomo explained that instead of pursuing formal education, he joined the transport sector and gradually climbed the ladder in the union.

“I started as a bus conductor, then as a treasurer of a unit of NURTW, to unit chairman, to branch deputy treasurer, to branch treasurer, to branch chairman, to state chairman, and then to national president. I worked hard to get here. I am not educated,” he stated.

He brushed off the criticisms over the “kundusi” gaffe, adding: “‘Kundusi!’ What happened? Grammars are too much. Grammar won’t finish Nigeria, I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba.”

Oluomo also took a jab at his critics: “So they are mocking me for saying ‘kundusi’, is my child not Qudus? You that you are educated, what did you do?”

The 50-year-old’s children are known to defend him online whenever he makes linguistic blunders.

The term “kundusi” gained attention after a video surfaced in March, showing MC Oluomo addressing his supporters and colleagues in Abuja.

In the clip, he attempted to commend their efforts by saying “kudos” but mispronounced it as “kundusi.”

The video quickly went viral, sparking a wave of online reactions and turning “kundusi” into a trending topic on social media.

In 2022, his son who goes by the name King West on Instagram fired back at a troll who called his father a tout benefiting from his ties with President Bola Tinubu.

“For those calling my father a tout, if my father was your father, you would never lack love, care, protection. Get a father like mine,” he wrote.
