Global Excellence publisher Mayor Akinpelu recounts prostate cancer battle

Global Excellence publisher Mayor Akinpelu

Publisher of Global Excellence magazine Mayor Akinpelu has opened up about his recent battle with prostate cancer, describing the ordeal as “hell.”

The 65-year-old media mogul took to his Facebook page on Monday to share his harrowing experience, which left him unable to attend the Excellence Recognition Awards, an event organised by his publication on Sunday, May 18.

“For two weeks, I was in the valley of the shadow of death. So sick was I that I couldn’t attend my Excellence Recognition Awards ceremony,” Akinpelu revealed in the emotional post.

During his treatment at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja and The Prostate Clinic in Victoria Island, Akinpelu said he endured immense suffering but ultimately emerged victorious. “While receiving treatment at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja and The Prostate Clinic, Victoria Island, I saw hell. But the storm is over. I thank the Most High for his mercy and grace. I’m back on my feet healthy again,” he wrote.

In his post, Mayor Akinpelu expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life and declared his readiness to live many more fruitful years. Borrowing lyrics from fuji music legend K1 de Ultimate, he concluded on an optimistic note, writing, “Aiye sese bere ni. Bobo no go die unless to ba darugbo.”

Fans, friends, and well-wishers have since flooded the comment section with messages of support and prayers for the celebrated publisher, who has been a pillar of Nigeria’s media industry for decades.
