Glo-sponsored Ojude Oba celebration kicks off with spectacular entertainment show

Globacom on Friday kicked off celebrations for this year’s Ojude Oba festival with a night of entertainment in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, featuring music legends and top comedians.

The event, tagged “Evening with Glo,” marked the beginning of activities for the annual festival and also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Glo’s sponsorship of Ojude Oba.

The company’s long-term support has helped transform the cultural celebration into a major tourist attraction and strengthened its bid for international heritage recognition.

The night came alive with performances by Juju music legend, Ebenezer Obey and Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde, also known as K1 De Ultimate.

For more than two hours, Obey thrilled guests with his evergreen tunes, prompting the audience to sing and dance along.

The evening also featured jokes from comedians Gbenga Adeyinka and Bash, alongside a performance from social media influencer, Kiekie.

Guests enjoyed good food, music and laughter in a hall packed to capacity.

Globacom said the event was organised to thank the Ijebu community for two decades of support.

“We decided to bring together great sons and daughters of Ijebuland to celebrate our shared heritage, and indulge in the melodious rhythms that resonate deeply throughout Yorubaland,” the company stated.

On the choice of musicians, Glo explained that “the ageless icon and Juju music maestro, Ebenezer Obey, has contributed decades of good, sonorous and philosophical songs to our society. His songs are still as fresh and full of inspirational messages as they were yesterday.”

About KWAM 1, the company said, “For decades, King of Fuji, K1 De Ultimate, the Fuji master, has been a great part of the music firmament in Nigeria, with his unique brand of Fuji that has elicited huge interest.”

Among the dignitaries at the event were Olukemi Adetona, wife of the Awujale of Ijebuland; Professor Fassy Yusuff, coordinator of the Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee; and Bisi Osibogun, Iyalode of Ijebuland and a member of the planning committee.

With the grand opening, anticipation continues to build for the main festival, which is expected to draw wide national and international attention.
