Genevieve Nnaji joins Iyabo Ojo, Eniola Badmus, others in celebrating Funke Akindele at 48

Genevieve Nnaji has joined other celebrities in celebrating her colleague Funke Akindele who clocked 48 on Sunday.

Funke marked the day with a video on Instagram in which she posed with a cake and expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life. The actress also used the opportunity to announce her upcoming film Behind The Scenes which is due for release in cinemas on Christmas Day.

On Monday, Genevieve reposted the video on her Instagram story, celebrating the box office queen.

Others who paid tribute to Funke include her close friend Eniola Badmus who described her as “my playmate, my gist partner, my safe place,” and fellow actress Iyabo Ojo who took to Instagram to hail her “colleague turned friend.”

Skitmaker Akinyoola Ayoola, better known as Kamo State, wrote a lengthy message in which he said Funke has been “more than just a godmother” and “a source of strength and love.”

Actor Tobi Makinde called the celebrant “a true trailblazer, luminary and exemplar of excellence,” while gospel singer Tope Alabi prayed that her “new age is blessed in Jesus’ name.”

Fans also flooded the actress’ comment section with goodwill messages.

Funke, also known as Jenifa, is one of Nollywood’s most successful actresses and filmmakers. She is currently Nigeria’s highest-grossing filmmaker with credits including Battle on Buka Street, A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa.

Genevieve Nnaji, who led Nollywood’s global breakthrough with films such as Lionheart, the first Netflix original from Nigeria, has been widely celebrated as one of the industry’s most influential actresses and filmmakers.
