Gbajabiamila, Hamzat, Osinbajo attend tribute night for Segun Awolowo

Chief of staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Lagos deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife Dolapo were among those who gathered on Monday at the Harbour Point Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, for a night of tributes in honour of the late Segun Awolowo, grandson of the late statesman Obafemi Awolowo.

Also present were former governor of Delta State James Ibori, former minister of industry, trade and investment Niyi Adebayo, former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel, chairman of Heirs Holdings and UBA Tony Elumelu and businesswoman Sade Okoya, among others.

Segun Awolowo died on November 20, at 62.

He was the only son of Abah Folawiyo and grandson of Obafemi Awolowo.

He was a lawyer and former executive director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), where he worked on the promotion of Nigeria’s non-oil export sector between 2013 and 2021.

Born on September 27, 1963, he was born two months after the death of his father, Segun Awolowo Sr., who died in a car accident at 25.

In July 2021, he was elected president of the National Trade Promotion Organizations (TPOs) representing ECOWAS member states.

He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
