Filmmaker Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes has triggered a surge in user traffic that caused a temporary outage on streaming platform Kava TV.
The development comes amid the growing success of the film, which currently ranks number one on Netflix for African audiences in Nigeria and also leads on Kava TV for international viewers.
Kava TV disclosed the disruption in a notice shared on its Instagram page on Sunday, attributing it to an influx of users.
“We’re currently experiencing a record-breaking surge in traffic following the release of Behind The Scenes and it’s putting temporary pressure on our servers,” the statement read.
The platform assured users that efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
“Our technical team is fully on it, working around the clock to scale capacity and restore a smooth, high-quality experience across the platform,” it added.
Kava TV later confirmed that services had been stabilised.
“To the thousands of you who tried to enter KAVA at the exact same second, your love is massive! We’ve cleared the road, and the app is back up,” it stated.
Behind The Scenes has recorded strong commercial performance both locally and internationally. It grossed £159,000 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, emerging as the highest-grossing Nollywood release in those markets.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film also earned N2.7 billion at the Nigerian box office, placing it among Nollywood’s biggest titles.
The film stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, alongside Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe and Mr Macaroni.
The film adds to Funke’s recent run of box office successes, following titles like Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah, both of which set records in Nigerian cinemas and reinforced her standing as one of Nollywood’s leading filmmakers.
