Filmmaker Funke Akindele’s movie Behind the Scenes has emerged as the highest grossing Nollywood film of 2025 and the fastest Nigerian movie to cross the N500 million mark at the box office.
Sharing the poster of the film on Instagram on Monday, distribution group FilmOne announced the milestone, writing, “And yet, another history has been made.
“Thank you, West Africa 🇳🇬🇬🇭, for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love.
“N512M at the box office.
Fastest Nollywood movie to hit N500M.
Number one film of the weekend.
“This is what belief looks like 💛
Behind the scenes of a historic run.”
The film achieved the feat within days of its release, outperforming other titles currently showing in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana.
Behind the Scenes centres on the story of Ronke Fernandez, a successful woman whose generosity and personal boundaries are tested, with Funke Akindele leading an ensemble cast that includes Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, Uzor Arukwe, Mr Macaroni, Destiny Etiko and Scarlet Gomez.
The latest record adds to Funke’s long list of box office successes. In 2022, Battle on Buka Street grossed over N668 million, becoming one of the highest earning Nollywood films at the time.
This was followed by Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024, which broke multiple records, including becoming the fastest Nollywood movie to cross N500 million and later exceeding the N1 billion mark.
Funke also produced Omo Ghetto: The Saga in 2020, which grossed over N636 million and held the record as the highest grossing Nollywood film before it was surpassed by her later works.
