Filmmaker Funke Akindele’s movie Behind The Scene has become the fastest film in West Africa to cross the one billion naira mark at the box office, further strengthening her record as Nollywood’s highest grossing producer.
The milestone was announced on Instagram on Monday by FilmOne Entertainment, which shared a poster highlighting the records broken by the film since its release.
In the post, FilmOne wrote, “Celebrating a massive milestone 🫶🏻🤭 We’re still wrapping our heads around this…
“• Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+
• Highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M)
• Highest-grossing release of 2025 so far
• The only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times
• Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time
• And the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year
“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us. ❤️”
Behind The Scene was released in cinemas across Nigeria in December and opened to strong audience turnout, recording one of the highest single day grosses in Nollywood history.
The film continued its strong run in the days that followed, reaching the N1 billion mark in record time.
The film is directed by Funke and features an ensemble cast of established Nollywood actors. It explores the pressures that come with success and the expectations placed on public figures by family and society.
The latest achievement adds to Funke’s box office record, following the success of earlier films such as Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Battle on Buka Street and Everybody Loves Jenifa, all of which crossed the one billion naira mark.
