Actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham have put an end to speculations about a rift between them after engaging in a playful conversation on Instagram.
The exchange began when Funke posted a video of herself dancing to Olamide’s song ‘99’ featuring Seyi Vibez, Young Jonn and Asake. Toyin reacted to the post, writing in the comment section, “Aunty Funke you hot ooo.”
Funke responded, “Toyin lol, onijogbon, Thanks dear,” confirming there was no animosity between the two.
The interaction sparked excitement among fans, with one writing, “Eyin fans isonu oya make una rest … tor Oluwaseun,” which loosely translates to “You senseless fans should relax now, thank God.”
Funke and Toyin have long been viewed by many as rivals in the film industry. Their fans are often seen comparing their movies, box office numbers and acting styles.
In December 2023, Toyin congratulated Funke after the latter’s film A Tribe Called Judah crossed the N1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
Funke is known for films like Jenifa’s Diary, Battle on Buka Street and A Tribe Called Judah, which have all enjoyed massive commercial success. She has also won multiple awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Toyin, on the other hand, is popular for her roles in Alakada, Elevator Baby, Ijakumo and Malaika. Her movies consistently rank among the top-grossing films in Nigeria.
Following their Instagram exchange, fans are now calling on both actresses to collaborate on a movie.
“Am happy but I want to see them collabo in a movie I love them both,” a fan wrote.
Funke and Toyin have yet to announce any joint project, but their renewed public display of friendship has sparked hope among movie lovers.
