Celebrities Funke Akindele, Nathaniel Bassey, Falz and others have reacted to bandits’ attack on a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that suspected bandits invaded the community on Tuesday evening, killing at least two persons and injuring one. The attackers also abducted worshippers, including the church’s pastor.

According to the police, a worshipper was shot dead inside the church while another victim’s corpse was later found in the bush. A vigilante who attempted to resist the attackers was also injured.

Residents said the gunmen stormed the church during a programme, opening fire and forcing worshippers into the bush. The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the area.

Funke Akindele, reacting to the tragedy on X, wrote:
“They are harmless citizens for God’s sake!!! I’m so weak. Chai 😭😭”

Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey also condemned the killings, posting the Nigerian flag alongside a lengthy prayer for divine judgment on those behind the violence.

He wrote in part:
“I believe with all my heart that this is the time and season for the enemies of this nation to be judged once and for all – TERRORISTS, BANDITS, KIDNAPPERS AND ALL WHO FUND, SPONSOR AND SUPPORT THEM.
If we miss this season, we may never get it again.
… NIGERIA is one of the greatest nations on earth.
… These killers, kidnappers, bandits and the architects of these evil systems must be judged!
Every one or group of persons that have determined that Nigeria will not rest, may their end come NOW! IN JESUS’ NAME.”

Rapper Falz called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.
He wrote:
“You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”

Others including Tim Godfrey, Mr Macaroni, Dunsin Oyekan, Jaywon and Frank Edwards also condemned the attack, urging authorities to take immediate action.

The incident comes barely a day after 25 students were abducted from a girls’ boarding school in Kebbi State, heightening nationwide concerns over rising insecurity.
