Filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved a major milestone with her 2025 film Behind The Scenes, which continues to perform strongly at the box office in Canada and North America.
The film earned over $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 in North America during its opening run, marking a significant achievement for a Nigerian film in international cinemas.
In an Instagram post, Funke said:
“I’m honestly overwhelmed with gratitude, and I don’t take any of this for granted… In just 3 days, you showed BEHIND THE SCENES so much love… To Nigeria and Ghana, my precious FANmily, thank you for always standing with me.”
Released in Nigerian cinemas on December 12, 2025, Behind The Scenes quickly became one of the biggest box office successes of the year, grossing over N200 million in its opening weekend.
By early January 2026, FilmOne Entertainment announced that the film had grossed over N2.1 billion, making it the highest‑grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The film, produced by Funke and Wendy Imasuen and co‑directed by Funke and Tunde Olaoye, stars Akindele alongside Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima Okojie, Ibrahim Chatta, Mr Macaroni, Uche Montana and Victoria Adeyele.
It tells the story of a successful real estate entrepreneur whose generosity begins to affect her personal life.
