Gospel singer Frank Edwards and several internet users have responded to reports that the video streaming service Showmax will be discontinued.
The news was shared in a message sent to customers on Thursday.
Canal+, the new owner of MultiChoice Group, said it plans to retire the Showmax streaming platform as part of cost-saving changes following its takeover of the company.
They said the move is meant to strengthen the overall digital offering and support long-term sustainability in a more competitive streaming market.
Showmax said there will be no interruption to current services for now and no action is required from subscribers at this stage.
Reacting online, Edwards wrote: “I was going to say why not sell it but licensing issue might be a lot deal with.”
Other users also reacted.
Matilda asked: “Will RHOL continue or will they stop?? I need to know please.”
Elizabeth wrote: “Where we go watch Wura. Where will I watch Big Brother.”
Mar Vel Loux said: “I was heartbroken when I received the mail. Why this hearbreak?”
Showmax began in August 2015 as a streaming service offering local and international series and movies. After years of heavy investment and partnerships, including a relaunch in 2024 with NBCUniversal technology, the platform reportedly struggled to meet growth targets.
