Former Ogun first lady Lucia Onabanjo dies two months after 100th birthday

Family of Olabisi Onabanjo has announced the death of Lucia Onabanjo, former Ogun State first lady.

She died at the age of 100.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the family said Mrs Onabanjo died on Monday, January 11.

“The family of Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo announces with deep regret but with gratitude to Almighty God the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo (1925–2026), who was called to glory on Monday, January 11,” the statement said.

The statement said she was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The family thanked God for her life and asked for prayers for the repose of her soul.

“We thank God for her fulfilled life and the legacy she leaves behind and pray for the repose of her soul,” the family added.

Lucia Onabanjo was the wife of Olabisi Onabanjo, who served as governor of Ogun State between October 1979 and December 1983.

He died in 1990.

The former governor worked as a journalist before entering politics.

Ogun State University was established during his time in office and was later renamed Olabisi Onabanjo University.

The family said funeral arrangements would be announced later.
