Oluwafemi Adefulire, the only son of former Lagos State deputy governor, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has died.
A family source confirmed the development on Wednesday, stating that he died in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after a surgical procedure.
The source said he was based in the United Kingdom and is survived by his wife and children.
The source described the incident as a heavy blow to the family and the political circle in Lagos.
In a statement on Thursday, Lagos APC publicity secretary Seye Oladejo said the party received the news with shock.
He said the entire party structure was in mourning over the loss.
Mr Oladejo said, “It is sadly true, the kind of tragedy every parent dreads. The APC is heartbroken. Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire is an exceptionally good person, and the entire party structure has been thrown into mourning by this tragedy. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mrs Orelope-Adefulire served as Lagos deputy governor from 2011 to 2015 under former governor Babatunde Fashola.
She currently serves as the senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals, a position she also held under former President Muhammadu Buhari before her reappointment in September 2023.
The family has yet to announce burial arrangements.
