Former Delta North senator Peter Nwaoboshi is dead

Former senator who represented Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Peter Nwaoboshi, is dead.

Details of his death were initially unclear, but a statement later issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Festus Ahon, said the former lawmaker died after an illness that lasted for some months.

Reacting, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed sorrow over Mr Nwaoboshi’s death, describing it as a major loss to Delta State, the Anioma people and the nation.

In a condolence message, the governor said the late senator was a prominent voice for Anioma interests and recalled his service at the National Assembly, where he served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.

Governor Oborevwori also noted that Nwaoboshi served two terms as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State and was active in public service over the years.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the governor said.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and all those whose lives he touched.

“I pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Peter Nwaoboshi was a member of the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
