Five2 Media and Entertainment’s feature film Extra Mile has clinched the award for Best Film by a Female Filmmaker – Nollywood at the 2025 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).
The movie, produced by Joy Grant and Solate Ovundah-Akarolo, tells a story of friendship tested by difficult choices. It stars Mercy Johnson, Jim Iyke, Lilian Esoro and other Nollywood actors.
Speaking on the win, Joy Grant said: “TINFF’s recognition is an encouragement for female voices in Nollywood to keep breaking boundaries and telling stories that matter.”
The award was received on behalf of the company by Canada-based communications lead Oraye St. Franklyn, who dedicated it to the cast and crew.
Executive producer Ovundah-Akarolo noted that the honour “signals a turning point for the industry, where female filmmakers are not only participating but leading and being celebrated for the powerful stories they tell.”
Other Nollywood stars at the event included Julius Agwu and Ayo Makun (AY).
The win adds to Nollywood’s growing recognition on the international stage. TINFF, held annually in Toronto, Canada, is regarded as one of the key festivals celebrating African and diaspora cinema.
