Lagos State has recorded the deaths of five female local government officials within the past two months.
Oluwakemi Rufai


Rufai was the councillor representing Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government. She was the only woman in the legislative council. She died on August 13, 2025, 17 days after her inauguration.
Zainab Shotayo


Shotayo represented Ward C3 in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA). She was the Chief Whip of the legislative council and the youngest member. She died on August 18, 22 days after her inauguration.
Oluremi Ajose
Ajose was the vice chairman of Badagry West LCDA. She died on September 20, 55 days after inauguration. She was the daughter of the Alapa of Apa Egun-Awori Kingdom.


Basirat Mayabikan
Mayabikan was the councillor representing Ward F in Shomolu Local Government. She died on September 21.


Adebimpe Akintola
Akintola was the council manager of Coker Aguda LCDA. She was also chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos. She died on September 29, 2025, after a brief illness. She was buried on September 30 according to Islamic rites.


The five deaths have drawn attention across political and public circles in Lagos State.
