FirstBank of Nigeria Limited is set to host the 64th edition of the Lagos Open Amateur Golf Championship, which will feature more than 200 golfers from Nigeria and other countries.
The tournament will hold from November 17 to 23 at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section in Lagos.
The event, one of the longest-running golf tournaments in the country, will feature a total prize purse of N34.5 million and a BMW X4.
Both professional and amateur golfers will compete across multiple categories, including an 18-hole amateur contest and a 32-hole professional round.
Announcing details of the championship, FirstBank Group chief executive officer, Olusegun Alebiosu, represented by the bank’s head of treasury sales and derivatives marketing, Ayokunle Ojo, said the increased prize money demonstrates the bank’s continued support for professional golf in Nigeria and the region.
“We have raised the pro-am monies from ₦5 million to N34.5 million, with the first prize winner taking home N10 million for a single-day play, the biggest reward for the game of golf in Nigeria,” he said.
Mr Ojo added that the tournament is part of the bank’s broader effort to use sports as a platform for development and inclusion.
“Our sponsorship of the Lagos Open Amateur Golf Championship is not only about competition. The First@Sport initiative represents our broader vision of using sport as a bridge between business, lifestyle, and community engagement,” he said.
Acting group head of marketing and corporate communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, said the championship continues to mirror the bank’s values and commitment to sports development.
Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Akinwunmi Akintola, commended FirstBank for its long-term support of the tournament.
“Over the years, FirstBank has remained a true friend of the club. Their continued support has helped sustain this tournament as a highlight of our sporting calendar,” he said.
Coscharis Motors is also partnering as a sponsor for this year’s edition.
Its Marketing General Manager, Abiona Babarinde, said the collaboration reflects shared values between both brands.
“This platform allows us to excite our common customers. It’s not just about banking with FirstBank or driving a car with Coscharis; it’s also about creating memorable experiences,” he said.
Coscharis Motors will provide test drives of several car models during the event, with a BMW X4 among the top prizes for winners.
