FirstBank First Bank of Nigeria Limited

FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the Lagos State Government for the E1 Lagos GP, an all-electric powerboat racing championship scheduled to hold between October 3 and 5.

The announcement was made at the E1 Lagos GP stakeholder immersion session in Lagos.

Acting group head of marketing and corporate communication of FirstBank Olayinka Ijabiyi said the bank’s participation was in line with its support for initiatives that promote sports and development across the country.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians. We are a bank that has been in business for over 131 years and we recognize that sports drives us as a country, which is why through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate our people,” Mr Ijabiyi said.

He added that the bank has a history of sponsoring tournaments such as the Georgian Polo Cup, which it has hosted for 105 years and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for 64 years.

The 2025 E1 Lagos GP will also align with FirstBank’s DecemberIssaVybe campaign, which features cultural, entertainment and lifestyle activities during the festive season.

Lagos State commissioner for information and strategy Gbenga Omotoso commended the partnership, noting that the event would promote sports while also highlighting Lagos to an international audience.

The Lagos GP is part of the 2025 E1 World Championship season, which will conclude in Miami, United States.

Teams owned by international stars such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki and Rafael Nadal will compete in the race.
