The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing Section Three of the 61-kilometre Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance during an inspection of the road project. He led a federal delegation to the site as part of a Citizens’ Engagement tour of the South East.
“This project is a visible testament to government’s resolve to complete strategic highways nationwide for the benefit of Nigerians,” Idris said.
The 61-kilometre dual carriageway, which totals 122 kilometres, is being built by CGC Nigeria Limited at ₦100.8 billion. According to the Director of Highways, Southeast, Engineer Tony Mbiko, the Enugu-bound section is completed, while work continues on the other stretch.
The tour also took the delegation to the Federal Government’s newly established Oncology Centre in Enugu. Idris described the facility as world-class and a proof of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to delivering life-changing health infrastructure.
Commissioned only weeks ago by the Ministers of Health and Finance, the centre houses one of the most advanced cancer treatment machines in the world. Until now, such equipment was only available abroad or in Lagos.
Idris said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is making top-quality healthcare available nationwide. Six such oncology centres are planned, with three already operational.
The delegation met patients during the visit, including a woman who previously had to travel long distances for treatment. She can now access care in Enugu.
“This is democracy delivering tangible dividends. Our visit allows us to hear directly from citizens, see the impact for ourselves, and ensure these facilities are maintained for public benefit,” the Minister said.
In addition, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah.
Mbah praised the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, recently endorsed by the National Economic Council. The initiative aims to promote inclusive growth across the country’s 8,809 wards.
He said the programme aligns closely with his administration’s grassroots development agenda. The Federal Government says the initiative is part of efforts to eradicate poverty, fight hunger and stimulate rural economic growth.
