The Federal Government has presented a cash award of N200,000 to Nafisa Aminu, one of Nigeria’s winners at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals.
The minister of education Dr. Tunji Alausa made the presentation at a ceremony on Thursday in Abuja.
Nafisa, alongside her teammates Rukayya Fema and Khadija Kalli, represented Nigeria at the competition held earlier in the year in London.
The three students from Nigerian Tulip International College, Yobe State, distinguished themselves in various categories of the global academic contest, which featured more than 20,000 students from 69 countries.
Nafisa was awarded the World’s Best in English Language Skills, while Rukayya emerged Overall Best in Debate.
The TeenEagle Global Competition assesses proficiency in English, critical thinking and communication among teenagers.
The Nigerian team received widespread commendations from leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Yobe State governor Mai Buni and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Following their win, the Atiku Abubakar Foundation awarded full scholarships to Nafisa, Rukayya and Khadija.
The scholarships will cover the remainder of their secondary education and continue through their university studies, either in Nigeria or abroad.
The Yobe State government has also pledged to host the girls at a reception, noting that they are beneficiaries of its scholarship scheme, which supports thousands of students locally and internationally.
The Federal Government’s cash award to Nafisa comes after public calls for official recognition of the students’ achievements, including one from former minister of communications and digital economy Isa Pantami, who urged similar honours as those given to national athletes.
