Matilda Ngbaronye Festac DPO dies in Lagos hospital

Divisional police officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, has died in a Lagos hospital.

Sources confirmed to QEDNG that CSP Ngbaronye passed away on Friday at a hospital in the Surulere area of Lagos State, five months to the day she celebrated her last birthday on May 24. The Lagos State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement.

Until her death, Matilda Ngbaronye served as the DPO of Festac Town, where she was known for her commitment to tackling crime within the community. She assumed the position about six months ago, vowing to rid the area of criminal elements.

Ngbaronye joined the Nigeria Police Force on April 19, 2010, and served in several capacities in the Lagos State Command. She was appointed deputy police public relations officer (DPPRO) in December 2020.

Her earlier roles included crime officer at Dolphin Estate Division, general investigation and fingerprint expert at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, and officer-in-charge of the Public Complainants Bureau. She also served with distinction as public information officer under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Her death has left colleagues and subordinates in deep sorrow, with tributes pouring in from officers and residents of Festac Town who described her as diligent and compassionate.
