Eleko (Oba Esugbayi) takes a deep dive into Nigeria’s colonial past, chronicling the remarkable life of Oba Esugbayi, the Eleko of Eko, and his brave fight to protect the cultural dignity and freedom of Lagos under the shadow of British colonial rule. Set in the early 20th century, Esugbayi Eleko brings an authentic depiction of Lagos during its colonial era, bringing history to life through meticulous research and consultation with historians.

The story of Oba Esugbayi Eleko focuses on his leadership and resistance to colonial pressures as he worked to safeguard local authority and the rights of his people.

The production captures the essence of Lagos, from its vibrant markets to its royal palaces, ensuring historical accuracy in every detail. Shot across significant and nostalgic locations, Eleko promises to transport audiences back to the colonial period, offering a powerful portrayal of a pivotal moment in Lagos’ history.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani, Tunde Olaoye, and Tunde Kosoko, Eleko features a cast of seasoned actors. Alongside Branch, the film stars Yemi Solade, Yinka Quadri, Hassan Taiwo (Ogogo), Sola Kosoko-Abina, Bidemi Kosoko, Jumoke Odetola, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Alaba Ultimate, Dele Odule, Saidi Balogun, Kola Olaiya, Broda Shaggy and Odunade Adekola.

Jide Kosoko, the film’s producer and lead actor, shared his excitement about the project: “It has been a great privilege to bring the story of Oba Esugbayi to life. The rich history of Lagos, with its complex and colorful culture, is a story that needed to be told. Through this film, we are not only honoring the past but also preserving it for future generations. I am proud of the remarkable work done by this talented cast and crew. This is more than just a movie, it’s a tribute to Lagos, its people, and its unshakable spirit.”

Femi said he was proud to take on the role. “Being part of this project is an honor. Esugbayi Eleko speaks to the heart of Lagos and Nigeria. It’s a unique and deeply moving story. I am proud to play my part in bringing it to the big screen.”
