King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos tells the story of 19th-century monarch Oba Kosoko, exploring themes of power, legacy and resistance. The film focuses on the struggle for the Lagos throne and the Salt Water War, a series of conflicts that shaped the city’s political landscape in the mid 1800s.
The story is set during a turbulent period in Lagos history, including succession disputes and rivalries that influenced the royal lineage. Historical accounts note Kosoko’s rise to power after conflicts that led to the exile of his uncle Oba Akitoye.
The film features a large cast including Femi Adebayo, Jide Kosoko, Femi Branch, Faithia Williams and Taiwo Hassan.
