Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, elder brother of actress Regina Daniels.
In a statement on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said Mr Ojeogwu was arrested following a petition filed against him and three others.
According to SP Adeh, the petition contained allegations of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft and cyberbullying.
She said Ojeogwu was invited several times for questioning but did not appear.
The police, therefore, obtained a warrant of arrest from a court and picked him up in Lagos before transferring him to Abuja for investigation.
After the investigation, Ojeogwu was arraigned in court on November 6.
The court ordered that he be remanded until he meets his bail conditions, which are yet to be fulfilled.
The development follows online claims and family reactions regarding his detention.
Regina Daniels and her relatives have accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of influencing the arrest.
Daniels, her siblings and their mother, Rita Daniels, have been speaking online about the matter.
Her brother, Sweezy, has also said he is ready to return to Nigeria even if it means being arrested.
In a post on Instagram, Regina Daniels suggested she might reconcile with Nwoko if it would help secure her brother’s release.
She said Ojeogwu’s arrest came because he stood up for her and expressed disappointment with the handling of the case by law enforcement authorities.
