Farooq Oreagba, managing director and CEO of NG Clearing Limited, has paid tribute to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, following the revered monarch’s death on Sunday at the age of 91.
In a post shared on Instagram on Monday, Oreagba wrote, “RIP Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr S. K. Adetona GCON. May Kabiyesi’s soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
The monarch died just hours after the death of his close friend and former President, Muhammadu Buhari, was announced.
Oba Adetona, born on May 10, 1934, ascended the throne on April 2, 1960 and reigned for over 64 years, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers.
Throughout his reign, he was known for his unwavering commitment to Yoruba tradition and culture, particularly through his passionate promotion of the Ojude Oba festival, a vibrant cultural celebration held annually in Ijebu Ode.
Farooq Oreagba, fondly nicknamed Mr Steeze, is recognised as the modern face of the Ojude Oba festival, having gained national attention for his striking fashion and graceful horse-riding appearances during the event.
Oreagba’s participation at Ojude Oba has helped spotlight the richness of Ijebu heritage.
Oba Adetona’s death marks the end of an era for Ijebuland and the Yoruba nation at large.
