Afrobeat singer Peter Okoye has blamed fans for the split of iconic music duo P-Square, saying their constant comparisons between him and his twin brother Paul played a major role in the group’s fallout.
Speaking at the AYLIVE show, Peter said the favouritism shown by fans towards one brother over the other created division, fueled ego issues and ultimately led to the group’s disbandment.
“Fans are the reasons P-square no dey together today,” he said.
“Two brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.”
P-Square, made up of Peter and Paul Okoye, was formed in 1997 and quickly rose to fame with hits like ‘E No Easy,’ ‘Bizzy Body’ and ‘Personally.’
The duo became one of Africa’s most successful music acts, known for their energetic performances and strong vocals.
Despite their success, tensions within the group began to grow, especially around management and creative control.
The group was managed by their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who also held a significant stake in their label, PClassic Records.
Years of internal disputes came to a head in 2017 when the duo officially went their separate ways, ending one of Nigeria’s most beloved musical partnerships.
