Fani-Kayode dismisses report of rejection as ambassador by Germany

Femi Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has denied reports that the German government rejected his nomination as Nigeria’s ambassador.

Reports had claimed that Germany declined his posting over concerns about his past statements and conduct.

The report also stated that the rejection was communicated on March 13 and that German authorities raised concerns about his previous remarks and public conduct.

President Bola Tinubu had approved Mr Fani-Kayode’s nomination as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country.

In a post on his X handle on Monday, Fani-Kayode dismissed the report as false and said it was being circulated to undermine his appointment. He also said opposition figures were responsible for the claim.

He wrote, “Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment, and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country! Keep crying!”

Fani-Kayode did not respond directly to the specific claims in the report but maintained that the information being circulated is false.

He said he remains committed to his nomination and to serving the country as assigned.
