The family of Peter Aneke has announced his death and paid tribute to his life and career, describing him as a man whose legacy will be remembered across professional and social circles.
Mr Aneke died on January 5, 2026.
In a statement signed by his son, Nnia Emeka-Aneke Jr, the family said he was known by different names, including PC within Nigerian amateur golfing and professional circles, Uncle P among friends and family and Onye fee eze in his community.
Aneke was born on July 28, 1949, in Enugu to Ambrose and Paulina Aneke of Okpatu, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. He grew up in the Ogbete area of Enugu and attended St Patrick’s Catholic School, Ogbete.
He later attended Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha and the Nigeria Military School, Zaria.
The statement said the Nigerian civil war disrupted his early years. After the war, he moved to Lagos, where he worked as a salesman, accounts and stores officer and reporter for a weekly tabloid.
He later travelled to the United States where he studied at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in Wisconsin, earning an associate bachelor of science degree in accounting.
The family said he also studied at the University of Wisconsin, where he served as chancellor of Delta Sigma Pi and a student senate member for two consecutive years.
During his time in the United States, he took his first golf lesson, a sport he later pursued for decades.
The statement said Aneke obtained a Master of Business Administration degree in 1981 and became a certified public accountant, receiving licences to practise in Wisconsin and Illinois in December 1982.
His professional career began at Alexander Grant and Co before he moved to PriceWaterhouseCoopers in the United States.
In 1983, he returned to Nigeria and joined Nigeria Hotels Ltd, where he worked in audit and management consulting and later became executive director, finance. The family said he spent 11 years in the role and served on several boards and committees.
He later established a financial management consulting firm and worked with Olusola Adekanola and Co as a principal consultant, divisional coordinator and director, southern operations. He also served as chief executive officer of Consolidated Management Consultants Limited.
The statement said Aneke served on a presidential panel of inquiry that investigated abuses of temporary import permits from 1984 to 2000.
After leaving Olusola Adekanola and Co, he formed George Andrews and Partners with former colleagues and later worked with ICMA Professional Services.
Aneke was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and served as a resource person for the institute’s continued professional education programme. He was also an alumnus of the Strategic Management Studies Programme at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom.
In sports and community service, the family said Aneke served as a director of the Nigerian Golf Federation and played golf for over 30 years. He was a life member of Ikoyi Club 1938 and a member of Ikeja Golf Club for more than 20 years.
He was also active in socio-cultural associations supporting people from Enugu in Lagos, including the Hilltop Club 1972 Lagos.
At his country home, he held the title Ichie Onye fee eze as a member of the Igwe’s cabinet.
Aneke was married to Violet Emeka-Aneke and they had three children Amma, Nnia and Izuchukwu, as well as grand twins Adaeze and Arinze Aneke.
The family described him as a devout Catholic and said he was known for respecting other faiths.
“The passing of Mr. Peter Chukwuemeka Aneke on January 5, 2026 marks the end of an era, but his legacy endures in the hearts and minds of all who knew him,” the statement said.
